Learning Outcomes
Before the completion of this course each student should be able to: 1. understand and display knowledge on the fundamentals of MIDI sequencing & digital audio 2. Apply knowledge about these concepts into practical domains, by running small projects on processing MIDI/audio signals 3. Develop practical skills in connecting MIDI/audio systems with electronic musical instruments 4. Develop the ability to implement related applications that could be constructively used in music educational settings.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Rapid technological development in the field of music technology and electronic musical instruments has entirely changed the music production process. As a consequence, advanced knowledge and practical skills on electronic audio and music systems is required for musicians, as being a necessary complementary skill to their musical ones.
Topical outline of the course:
A/D conversion and analysis of audio signals – Introduction to the MIDI protocol – Setting up a MIDI & Audio system – Computers and Desktop MIDI/audio - MIDI and electronic musical instruments (synthesizers, controllers) – Fundamentals of MIDI sequencing. Development of MIDI/audio sequencing-based applications and lesson plans for different levels of music education (automated harmonization, recording in the classroom, creating backing tracks etc.).
