Learning Outcomes
Familiarization of the students with the techniques of the choice-of-law rules. Knowledge of the basic rules of the EU Regulations of Private International Law.

Course Content (Syllabus)
A. General Part: 1. Definition and nature of Private International Law. 2. Brief historical survey. 3. Sources of Private International Law. 4. Conflict-of-Laws methodology. 5. Characterization. 6. Renvoi. 7. Public Policy. 8. Application of foreign Law. 9. Incidental question. 10. Europeanization of Private International Law. B. Special Part: 1. Regulation (EU) 1215/2012 on jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters (recast) ("Brussels Ibis"); 2. Regulation (EC) 2201/2003 concerning jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in matrimonial matters and the matters of parental responsibility ("Brussels IIbis"); 3. Regulation (EC) 593/2008 on the law applicable to contractual obligations ("Rome I"); 4. Regulation (EC) 864/2007 on the law applicable to non-contractual obligations ("Rome II"); 5. Regulation (EU) 1259/2010 implementing enhanced cooperation in the area of the law applicable to divorce and legal separation ("Rome III"); 5. Regulation (EU) 650/2012 on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition and enforcement of decisions and acceptance and enforcement of authentic instruments in matters of succession and on the creation of a European Certificate of Succession.
