Course Content (Syllabus)
The course considers the main theoretical and research approaches of Social and Political Psychology concerning (inter)group relations, as well as issues of identity, citizenship and belonging.In particular, it considers a) theories that approach intergroup relations through the prejudice problematic, b) theories that focus on collective identity as a vehicle of collective action, social conflict and social change, and c) social constructionist approaches the construction of social categories and dichotomies in discourse. Concepts such as intersectionality, temporality and locality/spatiality of identities and their contribution to the understanding of intergroup relations are also examined. The aim of the course is to highlight the ways of understanding and studying ideological (re)production, as well as social change from different approaches.
