Learning Outcomes
Postgraduate students, upon completion of the courses, will be informed about the latest internet technologies and services (video conferencing, online presence, social networking, collaboration) and will be able to:
- create and develop blogs and use them for language education/training
- use distance learning and collaboration software
- create and develop podcasts and use them for language education/training
- design, develop and conduct online surveys
- design, organize, and implement online courses on the asynchronous distance learning platform Moodle.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The subject of the course is the study of the available Web tools and services and their exploitation by the future foreign language teachers in their work. Particular emphasis is placed on content production and the development, delivery and support of online language courses.
The first part of the course deals with the web tools and services that ensure the online presence of the -future- communication professional or foreign language teacher, such as personal profile hosting services and website development services (digital presence). Online services that facilitate remote communication, collaboration and teamwork, such as teleconferencing and telecollaboration software, are also examined. Finally, content development and hosting services are considered, such as blogs and podcasts as well as online survey creation services.
The second part of the course deals with digital learning environments (Digital Learning Environments, Personal Learning Environments - PLEs), virtual classrooms (Virtual Classrooms), e-learning applications and especially with the development of electronic courses in online distance learning platforms (VLEs, LMS ).
Τhe theoretical principles of e-learning and the possibilities of learning environments such as Learning Management Systems (LMS) are presented, as well as the ways in which these environments are used to develop/deliver courses in an education/program training and more specifically for language learning courses. To this end, Moodle platform, its possibilities and its mode of operation, both from the user's point of view, and from the point of view of the instructor/course creator, are presented in detail, and students are invited to develop courses for distance learning while also utilizing other technologies and services that they were taught in the course.

Description
Evaluation is done by continuous assessment during the semester. Students must deliver two projects assigned to them individually (referring to the development of content in specific software platforms).
The evaluation criteria are technical excellence, scientific / theoretical support, quality / originality and completeness / variety of content.
The student’s projects are presented and discussed in class. The students have to take into account the comments made by the teacher and fellow students and –if necessary- incorporate any corrections or changes to their project.
Description and method of the evaluation process:
The assessment is done with two projects during the semester. Postgraduate students undertake each task individually, which concerns, in the first case, the development of content for a website and, in the second, the development of an e-course (on specific software platforms).
The evaluation criteria are:
- the technical perfection,
- the originality
- the completeness/variety of the content
- the theoretical support, and
- the quality of presentation
The assignments are presented in class in front of the instructor and their fellow students so that the students can take the criticism into account and incorporate any corrections or changes into their project.
Project development languages: Greek or foreign (English, French, German).
