Prerequisites
General Prerequisites
First order theory for monochromatic gravity waves. Basic knowledge of dynamic behavior of structures.
Learning Outcomes
After the successful completion of the course the students will: (1) Understand the functionality and the main characteristics of marine (offshore) structures (fixed-bottom and floating) for the exploitation of hydrocarbons and offshore wind energy. (2) Understand the construction methods and the construction equipment of marine structures based on best practices. (3) Understand the basic principles of the design/analysis of marine structures based on guidelines and specialized software. (4) Familiarize themselves with the calculation of loads and the assessment of the behaviour of components of marine structures with analytical equations.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Offshore hydrocarbons’ (oil and gas) field development processes. Offshore structures for hydrocarbons exploitation: Categories, types, evolution, mission, general characteristics and construction methods. Hydrodynamic loads on cylindrical members of small diameter: Morison equation. Fluid-structure interaction under the action of regular waves. Static analysis of mooring lines/cables. Offshore wind turbines: Offshore wind energy, configuration and operational elements, support structures, construction methods, basic design principles, levelized cost of energy.

Description
Oral examination: 60% of the final grade, Solution of problems / Homework: 35% of the final grade and Attendance 5% of the final grade. Extra premium (bonus, max 0.5 points) for overall opinion based on questions and answers during the lectures.
