Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course a student should be able to: - to analyze the static and seismic stability of natural and man-made slopes according to relative Eurocodes (EC7 & EC8) - to select the appropriate shear strength parameters - to design embankments - to identify the mechanisms of landsliding phenomena - to design the appropriate remedial measures for landslides - to propose soil improvement and reinforcement methods - to propose measuring systems for monitoring slopes deformations and detecting failures

Course Content (Syllabus)
- Methods of slope stability analysis for natural and man-made slopes - Shear strength and slope stability - Embankments Design - Landslides: Mechanisms of failure. Observation methods and analysis of instability. Mitigation methods. Methodolοgy and design of stabilization works. - Soil improvement and reinforcement methods. - Seismic slope stability - Slope stability analysis according to Eurocodes (EC7 & EC8) - Case histories of landslides and mitigation measures - Modern methods of monitoring surface and subsurface slope deformation and detection of failures.
