Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will:
1. be able to perform sound design and processing of sounds and sound effects for audiovisual productions
2. be able to perform advanced recordings in the studio and in the field
3. can process audio recordings with industry standard DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) and using specialized plug-ins for all possible applications, such as noise reduction, use of reverberation, use of dynamic effects, etc.
4. have delved into applied sound and audio technology
5. have delved into the physics of sound
6. have become familiar with and further cultivated their aesthetics for sound and its uses in audiovisual productions
7. have understood and aplied the narrative possibilities of sound
Course Content (Syllabus)
Sound design practice for cinema and audiovisual productions in general.
Sound & sound design from the script.
Creative sound design.
Analysis of the organization of cinematic sound.
Organization of the sound session of an audiovisual production in DAW.
Development of the theoretical background for the use of sound processing tools and application in practice.
Atmospheres/Ambiences/Backgrounds: necessity, recording, use and application.
Practice of sound processing & effect builds, aiming at integrated sound design.
Methodology for creating new sounds (recording-processing).
Sound design for a pre-existing silent short film.
Sound design for a pre-existing short film or film excerpt in practice.
