Learning Outcomes
Students within the context of the course are expected to: Comprehend basic principles and concepts, the object of landscape research and landscape design, approaches to and methodologies for landscape architecture. Familiarize with the conceptual and epistemological framework (landscape, site, landscape design and planning, landscape architecture), the landscape design approaches (ecological, perceptual, visual, social), the methodical and creative treatment of landscape projects (plotting, substantiation, landscape/site analysis, the idea, the image of the place, the spatial proposal).

Course Content (Syllabus)
Teaching the theory of landscape architectural design, focusing on current pursuits and trends and the critical assessment of landscape projects, with the emphasis on urban open space design. This course critically presents the new trends in natural and cultural landscapes design (landscape architecture, critique and theory in landscape-urban space design). Images and plans from recent international projects in landscape architecture and urban open spaces, well-known for their calibre, are used as examples of the above, as also for discussion about form and ideology in contemporary landscape architecture.
