Learning Outcomes
- Familiarisation with the basic characteristics of the field of visual culture and aesthetics and with the types of artistic practices, with special emphasis on the political imolications of art.
- Development of capacity for original interdisciplinary articulations.
- Advancing skills for the collection and assessment of various types of information in order to evaluate the socio-political relevance of contemporary art.
- Development of the necessary skills allowing the articulation of various sources (conventional and electronic) in developing organised arguments in speech and text.
- Researching the inter-connections between art and the social sciences making possible the critical assessment of visual culture.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Obviously no artistic practice can take place in a vacuum. Artistic production responds to particular socio-political stimuli; its reception also has particular social and political conditions of possibility. It can be framed in different ways and can be interpreted in many more. In fact, the choreography between art and politics has shaped artistic vanguards within modernity. To capture the recent mutations of this dialectic, contemporary political theory and other disciplines return today to assess anew the socio-political potential of artistic practices. Within the framework of this course, we will attempt to map the different axes that can be employed in order to research and interpret artistic output and to outline interpretations able to highlight its socio-political implications (emanating from political theory, sociology, education, etc.).
