| Description | On June 2018 I was elected as President of the European Association of Earthquake Engineering (EAEE). The European Association of Earthquake Engineering (EAEE) was established in October 1964, after the major Skopje (former Yugoslavia) earthquake, with main objectives the promotion of regional co-operation and research in the field of Earthquake Engineering and active contribution to the organisation of relevant educational and research activities in Europe. Its ambition was to play a major role in earthquake protection in Europe and to set an example for other national, regional and international associations that are active in this area.
EAEE’s central office is in Istanbul and its website address is http://www.eaee.org/. Currently, the Association numbers 37 national members, 6 corporate members (companies), 210 individual members and over 300 subscribing members.
The main activities of EAEE include: (1) The operation of several international working groups with a large number of members, dealing with topics in the field of earthquake engineering and earthquake protection of structures; (2) The organisation of the quadrennial European Conference on Earthquake Engineering, attended by a very large number of researchers and designers from all over the world , (3) The publication of the international journal Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering, as a joint venture with the world-leading publisher Springer; the journal is constantly rated among the top three in the world in the field of earthquake engineering .
