DescriptionThe winners George Mystridis, PhD candidate of the Department of Pharmacy and Ioannis Vizirianakis, Assoc. Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and Pharmacogenomics of the Department of Pharmacy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, won again for the 2nd time in 2021, the Award in the category for the most effective proposal in education "The Most Effective Teaching Application" within the Simcyp Academic Awards, Grant and Partnership Scheme GPS) of the Simcyp consortium. The award of the scientific team concerns a project carried out at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is related to modern innovative efforts in the field of medicine, with the development of pharmacogenomics and personalized/precision medicine. Besides, this effort has already been reflected as an idea and a way of practical clinical utilization and application in the first of its kind internationally "Handbook of Personalized Medicine" edited by Associate Professor Ioannis Vizirianakis, which was first published in English in 2014, and then translated in Greek in 2020. Noteworthy is the fact that our team is the only one to won two times so far. Specifically, the development and implementation of an innovative educational program in the curriculum of the undergraduate course "Clinical Pharmacokinetics" for 8th semester students of the Department of Pharmacy, AUTh won the award for the first time in 2019. This time the innovative methodologies were further developed and implemented in the curricula of two different graduate courses on the "Precision Medicine-Translation Research and Therapy" and "Industrial Pharmacy" Graduate programs, winning in October 2021, for the second time, this award. In the Simcyp Consortium participate more than 35 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, as well as more than 130 academic institutes from around the world that use the Simcyp simulator in research and education. The Simcyp simulator refers to the modeling of the body's function based on physiology, in order to predict the pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and pharmacogenomic behavior of drugs and to enhance safety and efficacy. It is one of the most innovative and ambitious efforts in the field of medicine in recent years.
