| Description | The world’s most valuable company, Google announced its decision to support a pioneering research project of Greek origin, focused on the implementation of innovative tools in digital journalism. The proposal was submitted by Assistant Professor Dr. Nikolas Panagiotou at the Department of Journalism and Mass Media Communication of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The key aim of the research is to highlight new ways of approaching and exploiting the experiences of the public, shaping the future of mass media, especially digital news organizations. Since end-user experiences present greater connectivity, it is crucial to explain behavior changes and how they can be assessed by news organizations as regards the consumption of news in the digital environment. The ultimate goal of the research is to develop an original tool that exploits these trends to help foster a sustainable news model.
The proposal was awarded funding by the Digital News Initiative (DNI) launched by Google together with eight leading European publishers, including The Financial Times, The Guardian, Germany's Die Zeit and Spain's El Pais, for product development, research and stimulating innovation in digital journalism.
