Postgraduate Degree of Specialization on "Complex Systems and Networks"
Postgraduate
Bachelor Degree in Sciences or Economics or Engineering or in a subject relevant to the programme
The Inter-Faculty Master Program on Complex Systems and Networks of the Schools of Mathematics, Biology, Geology and Economics offers graduate studies of high scientific and professional standards in the analysis and processing of Big Data and Complex Networks, ranging from theoretical simulations to real biomedical networks, geo-ecological networks, socio-economical networks, as well as communication and knowledge networks such as the World Wide Web and Ontologies. The educational objective of the Program is the theoretical and practical training of students in determining existing knowledge on matters they are interested in, the familiarizing with current research problems in a theoretical, computational and real-practical level, as well as participating in research. In the first semester students learn the mathematical and computational fundamentals which are the background to comprehend and familiarize with real networks which they study in the second semester. The class attendance is obligatory and success in all classes acquires a total of 60 ΕCTS credits. In the third semester students undertake a Master Thesis Project involving research which acquires 30 ΕCTS credits. A total of 90 ΕCTS and a 3 semester study period are required. The scope of the Program is to create a skilled scientific and professional workforce to staff research as well as service officers in sectors which are strategic for economic development in a increasingly networked social reality. Graduates of the Program constitute a reliable workforce not only on the average business activity level, but on a national and international scope. Graduates may be employed as: 1) Analysts- Consultants-Executives in Business-Organizations which develop and operate effective tools for the specialized and personalized analysis and modeling of Complex Systems and Networks. 2) Trainers of Business-Organizations executives, to substantially improve knowledge transfer and interoperability. 3) Researchers-Teachers.

3 SEMESTERS, 90 ECTSA full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units and each semester to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) (1ECTS=25-30 student work load hours). Compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one (Ministerial Decision no Φ5/89656/β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B). Each course is credited with a number of ECTS (>=2) according to the studentworkload (contact hours, laboratory work, examination etc) and accumulation of credits (ECTS) is accomplished after successful completion of the course.
