Computational Physics

<p><span style="background-color:rgb(240,243,245);color:rgb(21,27,30);">Α Degree awarded by a Greek public University or by a recognized foreign Institution of equivalent status or by a Technological Education Institute is required.</span></p>
<p>To obtain the postgraduate title (M.Sc.) from the Graduate Studies Program "Computational Physics" of the Department of Physics, graduate students are required to successfully complete the program΄s curriculum which lasts three semesters (90 ECTS). The courses offered are divided into two classes (core and elective), as follows: a) Required courses (total of 4): ECTS 30 b) Mandatory electives (Total 2<span style="color:red;">): E</span>CTS 15 c) Elective courses (total of 4): ECTS 30 d) Thesis: ECTS 15 During the first semester students are required to attend and successfully complete four compulsory subjects. In the second semester students are required to select, attend and successfully complete 2 of the 4 offered compulsory electives and 2 out of <span style="color:red;">19</span> offered electives. In the third semester students are required to select, watch and successfully complete <span style="color:red;">2 out </span>of 19 offered electives and complete a dissertation thesis which is graded by a three member committee after a public presentation. <span style="color:red;">Students have the option to choose two courses offered by other postgraduate programs.  </span>The main objective of the Master of Science in Computational Physics is to train scientists to utilize advanced computational techniques to solve complex physics problems. Combining theoretical knowledge with practical programming and modeling skills, the program prepares students for innovative research and applications in academia, industry, and innovative product companies. The MSc graduates acquire skills that allow them to use: a) Computational techniques of dynamics that are now widely applied in the area of  Space, Chemistry, biology, environment, economy and several branches of engineering, b) Numerical techniques of electromagnetism in telecommunications and electronics, c) Applying the quantum mechanical techniques in basic research and new technologies, d) Computational techniques of statistical physics applied to all branches of science and engineering and e) Technical computational physics with applications in the educational technology field. The experience gained with the training in computational physics enables the program΄s graduates to pursue successful careers in a wider range of professions which are in need of the use of computational techniques and the development of computational simulation models and processes, processing data, applied informatics, and the utilization of information technologies in the educational process.</p>

<p>3 SEMESTERS, 90 ECTS.</p><p>A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units and each semester to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) (1ECTS=25-30 student work load hours). Compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one (Ministerial Decision no Φ5/89656/β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B). Each course is credited with a number of ECTS (>=2) according to the student΄s workload (contact hours, laboratory work, examination etc) and accumulation of credits (ECTS) is accomplished after successful completion of the course.</p>
