Course Content (Syllabus)
It is about a comparison between three characteristic byzantine cities, Constantinople, Thessaloniki and Mystras during the middle byzantine and late byzantine period, emphasizing to the urban planning and development, to the continuity and changes in the usage of spaces. Fortifications, ports and harbours, roads of trade, palaces, domestic buildings and public and monastic institutions are to be studied and examined in the seminars.
The course comprises 12 three-hour lectures, half of them are seminars given by the teacher and half of them aim to the presentation of articles, to the practice on topographic maps, plans and layouts and to the presentation of semestrial essays.
