Course Content (Syllabus)
The course examines the construction of political identities in the Medieval Europe and the Byzantine Empire (12th-15th c.). It aims to the understanding of the analytical category "identity" as a research tool. The study focusses on a. the identity as a cultural construction and the meaning of the immagined community, b. construction processes of identities, c. the construction of the Otherness, d. identity as representation, e. the relations between narative, memory and identity, f. ethnic identity and national identity.
