Systematic analysis of primary sources and secondary literature as regards the history of the Ottoman Empire during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Week # 1 Introduction: Methodological problems, sources, assignment of essays to the post-graduate students.
Weeks # 2-3 Rural Economy.
Weeks # 4-5 Urban Economy.
Weeks # 6-7 Commerce.
Weeks # 8-10 Social history: the emergence of the new provincial elite and its interaction with the imperial centre.
Weeks # 11-13 Presentation of essays by the post-graduate students.
