Familiarization of students with the main avant-garde movements of the fin de siècle/ ability to connect literary texts and art works to their social, cultural and historical context/ ability of theoretical interpretation of cultural phenomena/improvement of the students critical thought/training in methodology of research

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims at investigating the avant-garde movements of the fin de siècle (and in the years after): expressionism, cubism, futurism, dada, surrealism etc. Examples from the various currents will be presented and analyzed. Manifests issued by leading figures of these movements will be taken into consideration as well. At the same time the theoretical dimensions of the phenomenon will be explored (Peter Bürger, Matei Calinescu etc.).Additionaly the students will be trained in methodology of research.
