Learning Outcomes
To familiarise with the systematic study of the relationship between migration and the urban space through historical, theoretical and empirical approaches. To understand the multiple demographic, spatial, economic, socio-political and cultural implications of the settlement of migrants on the composition, structure, landscape and identity of cities. To deepen into ventral concepts, theories and approaches regarding the study of migration, otherness and diversity on urban space. To familiarise with key dimensions of the relation between migration, diversity and urban development processes and policies.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The content of the module is structured along three thematic units which are complementary and interrelated to each other:
• The first one introduces key theoretical concepts surrounding the relation between migration and the city, it’s space, economy and dynamics of change.
• The second examines issues related to the settlement and distribution of migrants on the space of the city, their causes and implications.
• The third focuses on the relation between urban development processes, diversity and policies of immigrant integration and the management of difference.
