Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. know the basic principles of remote sensing and GIS and the main applications in agriculture, 2. be familiar with the common sources of geographic data and perform image photointerpretation, 3. handle the main tools of digital image processing software and apply them to the common types of satellite images.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Technical details of aerial photography, principles of photogrammetry, electromagnetic spectrum, spectral signatures of surface targets, interpretation of aerial photography, applications in soil mapping and evaluation, satellite remote sensing, satellites for exploration of natural resources, photographic and non-photographic systems, technical details of image acquisition, satellite image interpretation, optical and digital processing, digital image enhancement, applications for land cover mapping, crops identification, yield forecast, soil moisture mapping, sampling methods, supervised and unsupervised pixels classification, precision farming, spectroscopy. GIS, geographic models, importing and exporting geographical data, data formats, analyzing geographic information, overlay analysis, proximity analysis, cartographic output, elements of thematic cartography, applications.
