Course Content (Syllabus)
Optical resonators and Fabry -Perot cavities. Multi-layer structures. Optical filters. Light propagation in crystals. Co-direction and contra-directional coupling - mathematical framework of coupled-mode theory. Coupled mode devices. Control of optical guided waves. Electro-optic effect, phase modulators, optical switches. Integrated optical/photonic devices and circuits. Interferometers. Diffraction gratings and free-space optical devices, MUX/DEMUX. Materials for optical integrated circuits and fabrication techniques. Optical amplifiers: Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA) Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOA).
