Learning Outcomes
The primary goal of this course is to present the acute effects of exercise on the heart and the functional and morphological cardiac adaptations from exercise training in healthy and cardiac patients. Additionally, the guidelines for preparticipation screening, the common cardiac disorders during exercise, the effects of the environment on cardiac function and resuscitation will be described.

Course Content (Syllabus)
1. Anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system 2. Noninvasive methods for the evaluation of the cardiovascular system 3. Invasive methods for the evaluation of the cardiovascular system 4. Acute cardiac responses to exercise 5. Cardiac adaptations from exercise training 6. Atherosclerosis: primary and secondary prevention 7. Cardiac rehabilitation programs 8. Hypertension and exercise 9. Common cardiac disorders during exercise 10. Medications and exercise 11. Extreme environmental conditions and the heart during exercise 12. Sudden cardiac death of athletes 13. Resuscitation
