Learning Outcomes
As a follow up of History of World Theatre I, the course examines the Golden Age of theater in Spain. Then, the focus is on European dramaturgy in the 17th and 18th century. On the one hand, we follow the development of theater, as an art form and a social phenomenon, during the eras of neoclassicism and the Enlightenment; on the other, we analyze representative plays from each century and each country discussed (Lope de Vega, Racine, Moliere, Marivaux, Goldoni etc)

2.Golden Age - Spanish Theater (Autos Sacramentales), Lope de Vega, Calderón.
3. French Neoclassicism: Corneille.
4. French Neoclassicism: Racine.
5. French Neoclassicism: Molière.
6. Review of French Neoclassicism through representative texts.
7. Restauration Theater: Wycherley, Congreve.
8. 18th century English theater: Goldsmith, Sheridan and developments in acting.
9. 18th century French theater: Marivaux and developments in dramaturgy and acting.
10. 18th century Italian theater: Goldoni and Gozzi.
11. Late 18th century French theater: Diderot, Beaumarchais.
12. 18th century German theater: Sturm und Drang, Lessing, Schiller.
13. Review of 18th century theater in Europe.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION
The students have to respond to two categories of questions:
1. Multiple choice (70%).
2. Brief essay with explanation of your answer in two of the multiple choice questions (30%).
