Learning Outcomes
The course aims: a) to give the opportunity to students to apply the comparative legal method in a particular branch of law, particularly in non-discrimination law b) to enable them to approach from a comparative perspective certain aspects of this branch and more specifically, the forms and grounds of discrimination. In particular, the specific learning objectives of the course are: to equip students with knowledge of comparative law which will allow them, on one hand, to comprehensively understand the four main forms of discrimination: direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, harassment and positive measures, and on the other hand, the most important prohibited grounds of discrimination and the relationship between them. Students should, more specifically, acquire a comprehensive understanding of the problems faced by discrimination based on sex, racial and ethnic origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, and also by the so-called "multiple discrimination", which arises by the accumulation and interweaving of the above-mentioned grounds. Furthermore, students should understand the solutions which have been given to these problems by the national legal orders, the international legislator and by the European Union and the ECHR law.
