General Prerequisites
Elementary computers skills, knowledge of WinXP or Win Vista, experience in usage of computer network, internet browser, English language. Basic knowledge of biochemistry, stricture and function of the plant cell, tissues and organs.
Learning Outcomes
After this course the students will:
• Know the basic functions (mechanisms) of plant organisms with emphasis on plant specific functions.
• Know the interaction of these mechanisms.
• Know the responses of plants to environmental factors.
• Be able to search and retrieve bibliographical information.
• Be able to analyse and present data collected from laboratories practicals.
Course Content (Syllabus)
• Photosynthesis: light reactions,
• Photosynthetic carbon reduction cycles (C3, C2).
• CO2-concentrating mechanisms.
• Water relations and water transport.
• Μineral Nutrition.
• Plant growth and development: plant hormones, light control of plant development, flowring mechanisms.
• Fruit ripening and senescence.
Description
Continuous assessment, based on participation and skills acquisition, in the work given by the lecturer. Constructive criticism of the work of others students.
Laboratory assessment of student’s complex ability to prepare, present and defend his practical work accurately, in the given time, in front of the teacher and students.
Each student will be assessed for his ability to:
