Learning Outcomes
(a) to offer the students a panoramic view of Greek poetry from the archaic to the classical period.
(b) to help students read in the original an extended and representative series of poetic texts that have not been taught in the general curriculum.
(c) to help students acquire the ability to read poetry with ease.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This class is designed exclusively for classics majors. It consists in a global (literary, linguistic, metrical) presentation of a corpus of poetic texts from the archaic to the classical period. Special emphasis is given to issues pertaining to the creation and evolution of poetic genres, their basic characteristics, structure, and content, as well as special questions associated to the study of major poets like Homer, Hesiod, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, and Aristophanes.
