Course Content (Syllabus)
The course presents the relationship of various world religions with the natural environment, from antiquity to the present time. A number of contemporary environmental issues is also presented. Course outline: 1. Religion and the environment, a two-way relationship 2. Religions for the environment 3. Religions of Eastern Mediterranean (Ancient Greece and Rome) 4. Religions of Eastern Mediterranean (Asia Minor, Balkans and Black Sea, Middle East, ancient Egypt) 5. Judaism and the environment 6. Mesopotamia (Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians) 7. Eastern religions (Vedism, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism) 8. Eastern religions (Confucianism, Daoism, Shintoism) 9. Indigenous traditions (Subsaharian traditions, Indians, Aboriginals) 10. Islam and the environment 11. Contemporary issues of theology and ecology 12. International movements for ecology 13. Term paper presentation
