Learning Outcomes
Demography is closely associated with both the biological sciences and the social and uses both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis. An agronomist folowing the Department of rural economy should be able to know the evolution of the human population ( urban and rural ). On successful completion of this course, students will be able to reply to : 1.How the population sizes and changes influence the formation of social conditions and situations 2. how population data are influenced by economic, environmental, social and other factors 3. how they could " intervene " through policies on the population to improve their socio -economic figures 4. How to study the structure of a population which is extremely useful to appreciate including labor force , scope and composition of the market , the senile population and its impact on innovation, development plans, etc. 5. provide demographic prospects of a population

Course Content (Syllabus)
Demography represents a fundamental approach to the understanding of human society both in urban and rural areas. Nowadays, the population of the developed world is shrinking.Women give birth to fewer children. People are living longer. The number of pensioners is increasing in comparison to employees. The map of migration is changing and immigration countries become countries of emigration and vice versa. Justification and evaluation of these phenomena and the changes brought about in the economic and social level are negotiated during the course Social Demography. In particular it includes: Introduction to Social Demography. Size and structure of the population. Aging. The evolution of the Greek population. Biological renewal. Biological deterioration of the population.Migration

Description
1. Three Work-Study-Research assignments [60 % of the final grade] A. Content analysis in a matter pertaining to the social demographic (20 %). The content analysis is a method of secondary analysis of qualitative materials that can have several forms: texts , interviews, pictures, film , etc. Usually the content analysis applied to material from the media (newspapers, magazines, television , cinema , radio) but applied to the analysis of other types of texts and material quality generally as personal papers and documents , interviews , letters , literary texts , etc. Number of words 700 . B. Interview an immigrant who is established in Greece (20 %) C. writing a questionnaire and will fill at least 10 people young scientists (unemployment or workers ) who intend or want to migrate (20 %) 2. Midterms [ mandatory ] , 40 % of the final grade. Condition of participation Attendance (up to 3 absences) Right improving the degree with an oral examination for those who get score 7 and above . Final exams in subjects that developed during deliveries [100 %]
