Learning Outcomes
Development of basic clinical skills, in a systematic and safe way, in a protected environment before contact with real patients. At the end of the course students should have acquired the necessary knowledges - skills and attitudes in order to be able to perform basic clinical skills in a simulated enviroment.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Basic principles of medical history taking. Communication skills in consultation. Physical examination per system (practised on "simulated" patients and/or manikins eg DRE) Practical skills: Hand washing, putting gloves, prevention of blood borne infections, safe disposal, measuring vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration frequency, blood pressure, satO2) - venipuncture - injections: intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous - bladder catheterization (female and male) - Pap test (cervical smear taking) - use Peak Flow Meter for Measurement maximum expiratory flow - Airway managment - tecnique of correct use of inhaled drugs - wood care and suturing - Interpretation of tests: electrocardiogram, multistix for urine test - glucose test - Communication Skills: informing the patient about test results, telling bad news, managment of difficult patient, Written communication skills: writing medical history, complete patient chart, filling orders for tests, writing referral letters, prescriptions, death certificate.

Description
The examination in this course is based on a MCQ test examining knowledges (one in five correct answer) and a practical examination of clinical skills. Practical skills are assessed by an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). In the OSCE consists of a series of stations, assessing a variety of clinical skills in simulated enviroment with simulated patients using standardized rating scales (checklists).
