Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to: Understand basic terms of the study of politics Know the different approaches of the study of politics Understand the nature and evolution of the state Understand the role of political culture and communication in politics Understand the significance of elections, political parties and pressure groups as mediators between society and government Know the institutions of national governments and their relationships Understand the procedure of forming and implementing polical decisions Understand the developments and actors that determine politics in the contemporary globalized world

Course Content (Syllabus)
Τhis course offers a comprehensive introduction to the study of politics and concentrates on the role and functions of the state, governments, political systems and regimes, parties and party systems and interest groups, elections and electoral systems, legislative authority and parliaments.

Participation in class discussions (20%). Written exams, where students are not only called upon to analyse important issues and concepts, but are also encouraged to think critically and independently (90%).
