Municipal solid wastes’ quantity and quality characteristics. Composition and generation rate of solid wastes. Prevention and reduction of solid waste. Waste collection bins. Collection vehicles. Transfer stations. Municipal and local collection of solid wastes. Recycling. Selective collection and reuse. Mechanical sorting. Hand sorting. Thermal treatment of solid waste. Biological treatment of solid waste. Energy recovery. Criteria for landfill sites selection. Landfill sites design and operation. Landfill gas management. Leachates control.
