The aim of the course is to describe basic principles of intellectual property, quality assurance, and innovation. A researcher or a research manager should be familiar with such principles towards developing a patenting strategy and for the commercial exploitation of technology and innovation.

Basic principles of patent legislation, Activities of Patent orgnaizations, Requirements for patenting, IP types, Parts of a patent, Duration of a patent, International treaties, Inventor rights, Copyrights, Confidentiality policies, Patents and R&D departments, Patenting in Greece. Technology and its importance for modern businesses. Technology strategy and its relation to business strategy. The concept of technology management. Selection of appropriate technology. Mechanisms of knowhow transfer. Technological collaborations. Development of technology strategy (lifecycles of products, industries, and technology, quest for business core competencies, technology portfolio analysis. National innovation systems, national policies regarding innovation and their influence on business policies.
