Course Content (Syllabus)
Reinforced concrete matrix (concrete-steel). Behaviour of concrete under different loads (compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile strength, biaxial and triaxial stress). Elastic properties of concrete and reinforcing steel. Elastic moduli (influence parameters, determination). Poisson's ratio. Concrete deformation. Drying shrinkage and creep (description, influence parameters, impacts, determination). Thermal shrinkage. Cracking mechanisms in concrete. Concrete durability. Concrete deterioration. Design of durable concrete. Test methods for strength and other mechanical properties determination in existing structures. Test methods for estimating the condition of reinforcing steel. The syllabus is supported by laboratory practice which will allow the student to get accustomed with stress-strain measurement test methods and cracking behaviour of reinforced concrete.
