Understand the wetland functions and values and the interations between wetlands and agroecosystems 3. Know the necessity to prepare and apply a plan for sustainable wetland management.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Wetlands and Agriculture Introduction. Wetland definitions. Leagal framework of wetland conservation. Habitad Directive 92/43/ EU. Ramsar wetlands. Natural wetland functions. The main groups of wetland flora and fauna. Wetland values for humans. Constructed wetlands. Wetlands and Environmental Education. Natural changes and man-made alterations of wetlands. Positive and negative interations between wetlands and agroecosystems. Water resime and wetland biota. Principles of sustainable management of wetlands and preparation of management plans. The present greek wetland resources and their future perspectives.
