Learning Outcomes
Academic education must prepare students both as scientists and members of society that is currently confronted with global challenges such as population growth, social inequalities, movements, environmental problems, transition to an information society etc. Sociology analyzes social reality through the lens of different theoretical streams and is a powerful scientific tool that helps an agronomist understand - beyond a surface reading of reality. After the completion of the course students will be able to : 1. understand the rapidly changing social environment in which they are going to live and to operate as people, scientist-practitioners- agronomists. 2. gain sociological imagination, recognizing aspects of the social environment even under the superficial reading of reality 3. apply sociology in practice 5. learn basic theoretical streams of sociology

Short History of Sociological Thought Classical sociologists & rural societies. Social Theoretical Approaches. Symbolic interactionism (Symbols & Signs). Social construction of the countryside. Social structure. Social status. Social roles. Social mobility Social Exclusion. Social inequalities. Social networks-Social capital Social dilemmas and natural resources. Sociological thinking and environment Social research and ethics.
