Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction and classification of mineral nutrients. Ion uptake by roots and short-distance transport. Long-distance transport (xylem, phloem). Uptake and release of mineral elements by leaves. Mineral nutrition and yield response. Nitrogen fixation. Functions of macronutrients and micronutrients. Hydroponic culture. Diagnosis of deficiency and toxicity of mineral nutrients.The role of rhizosphere in to mineral nutrition. Adaptation of plants to adverse soil conditions. Fertilizers. Mineral nutrition of cultivated plants (fruit trees, vegetables, field crops etc).
