Skills: Acquiring the ability to identify and select the necessary features according to the needs of each application (fibers and devices). Solving Exercises, Searching for Bibliographic Information. Presentation of their work (communication ability, correct use of presentation techniques, familiarization with questions from the public).
Course Content (Syllabus)
Theory: Introduction- from the optical fiber in the integrated photonic waveguides, refractive index and waves. Optical link characterization parameters - optical signal (PULSE TRACE, EYE DIAGRAM, BER, Q-FACTOR, EXTINCTION RATIO). Theory of optical transmitters, optical filters and semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) and erbium doped fiber amplifiers.
LAB: Introduction to VPI simulation tool for photonic circuits. Signal quality characterization (with pulse generator and oscilloscope). Laboratory tests with optical active and passive optical components (transmitters, filters and amplifiers).
