Course Content (Syllabus)
On the basis of linguistic evidence an attempt is being made to conduct a comparative study of the language and culture of the ancient Indo-Europeans. Issues to be covered: brief historical survey; linguistic families; the comparative method and related methods; linguistic and cultural reconstruction; linguistic palaeontology; the relationship between language, society and culture; linguistics and other related disciplines (philology, archaeology, history, ethnology, etc.); language and myth; social organization, institutions and beliefs of the Indo-Europeans (individual, family, social group; legal traditions, justice, religion; fauna and flora); the poet and poetic tradition.
