Learning Outcomes
1. Students will have a clear picture about the Secular Art Music from Constantinople, its most renown composers and its repertory, 2. they will be able to make transcriptions and musicological analyses of representative works belonging to the aforementioned repertory, 3. they will have learnt to sing and to play chosen works by composers of classical oriental music of the 16th-19th centuries.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course comprises the following themes: - A general survey of the Secular Art Music from Constantinople (known also as 'music outside the church' or 'classical oriental music', which flourished mainly during the 17th-19th century): history, composers and their works, theory (makams-modes and usuls-underlying rhythmical patterns), collections-editions. - Deepening into issues of genres and categories of Secular Art Music from Constantinople: fasil, sarki, pesref, semai a.o. - Approach to the use of musical instruments and orchestration of the classical oriental music.

Description
The assessment of the students is based on the following parameters: 1. regular frequentation of the courses and the preparation of the concert, as well as active participation in the concert, 2. a written test during the term, 3. a final written examination.
