Learning Outcomes
In the successful completion of the course the students will: be able to understand the basic physiopathological functions of the eye use basic diagnostic ophthalmic instruments and tools describe analytically the ophthalmic symptoms design a therapeutic strategy in order to deal with common ophthalmological conditions perform basic surgical techniques involving the eyelids (upper, lower and nictitating membrane)

Course Content (Syllabus)
Description of Ophthalmology Course (9th and 10th Semester) The Ophthalmology course includes the Ophthalmic examination (Symptoms, Diagnostic Approach-Skills), and the Surgical and Pharmaceutical Treatment of Various Ophthalmic Disorders. In order to achieve learning goals, both theoretical teaching, clinical practice and wet-labs will be carried out. The lesson is examined in writen (60%) and oral presentations during the course (40%). Detailed teaching hours are described below: 1st-2nd Clinical Ophthalmic Anatomy and Physiopathology 3rd and 4th Ophthalmic Examination I (Symptomatology-Differential Diagnosis-Ophthalmoscopy) 5th-6th Ophthalmic Examination II (Tonometry-Tear tests-Microbiological - Cytological Examination-Biopsy) 7th-8th Surgical Management of Ophthalmological Incidents  (Anesthesia-Ophthalmic Instruments-Surgery Equipment) 9th-10th Corneal Surgery 11th-12th Lens Surgery 13th-14th Function of Retinal-Optic Nerve Function. Retrography-Chromatic Reflexes 15th-16th Pharmaceutical and Surgical Treatment of Glaucoma-Orbit 17th-18th Management of Hereditary Disases in Dog and Cat. Eye Certificate 19th-20th Ocular Manifestations of Systemic Diseases 21st-23nd Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) (3 hours) 24th-26th Conjunctival, Nictitating membrane and Corneal Surgery (3 hours) 27th -29th Ocular Therapeutics - Drug Administration: Intraocular, sub-conjunctival, anterior chamber, catheters, implants (3 hours)
