The learning outcomes of the course for the students are: (a) To get familiarized with bilingual acquisition and the various types of bilingualism (b) To understand the factores that affect bilingual acquisition (c) To study the theoretical approaches to bilingual acquisition (d) get familiarized with the methodological tools employed in the field of bilingual acquisition (e) To be able to collect and process data from bilingual populations (f) To be able to present an empirical pice of research both orally and in written form

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course covers central topics in the field of bilingual acquisition. The factors that affect bilingual acquisition are presented and thoroughly discussed, such as age of first exposure to bilingualism, the quantity and quality of input, (b)literacy etc. Moreover, the main theoretical approaches to bilingualism are outlines and are evaluated with respect to experimental data with focus on experimental studies on Greek. A variety of linguistic phenomena are discussed with respect to the way they are acquired by bilingual populations. Furthermore, emphasis is given on bilingual processing.

Description
The students' evaluation is achieved by means of (a) an oral presentation in which they present an empirical piece of work, (b) a poster in which they present the experimental data of a small survey they conducted and (c) a written exam.
