The influence of confinement on strength. Concrete behavior in biaxial and triaxial stress state. Creep and shrinkage. Reinforcing steel: different types and purposes; geometrical characteristics of ribs. Explanation of the bond mechanism. Eurocode 2 requirements – Mechanical properties. Seismic characteristics of reinforcing steel. Stress – strain relationship. Behaviour in repetitive and cycling loading. Structural Analysis. General requirements. Ultimate Limit states. Load cases and combinations, (dead load, imposed loads). Practical factors of safety for loadings. Section analysis. Bending with or without axial force. Design of singly reinforced concrete rectangular section in bending. Design of flanged reinforced concrete section (beam section) in bending at the ultimate limit state. Bending plus axial load at the ultimate limit state for rectangular symmetrical sections (column sections). M – N interactive diagrams for rectangular symmetrical column sections. Rectangular symmetrical column section subjected to biaxial bending. Shear, mechanisms of shear transfer and failure. Design of reinforced concrete beams and columns for shear.
