Course Content (Syllabus)
Description and aim: It is an elective course and aims to introduce to the students the unknown in Greece sport of baseball and softball as a game and as a competitive sport.
Contents:
Introduction to the games of baseball and softball (history and philosophy). Terminology
Familiarization with the baseball field and its characteristics (also called ball field or baseball diamond). Familiarization with the equipment (bases, balls, bats, gloves)
Basic rules of the games – similarities and differences.
Technical analysis of the throw, the bat and the strike.
Throwing and receiving the ball
Holding, swinging and using the bat
Improving abilities for moving around bases (living a base, sliding, stepping – passing through a base).
Game tactics for the offensive and defensive team
Game strategies
Fitness and abilities for baseball and softball players
Rules – Organizing tournaments – game officials
Educational target achievements in school Physical Education through baseball and softball games
Baseball and softball as recreational games
