Students are expected to • familiarize themselves with the scientific approach to sport, the connection of theory and practice on the basis of laboratory measurements and application of training • analyze biological phenomena and determine coaching contents based adjustments due to exercise • support experiential learning of training technique combined with new skills, competencies based on biomechanical models • know the workout routine and biological bases of tactical behavior (short and long term momery, goals and guidelines) • relate the knowledge of building and coaching periodization by time discontinuity of development and the particularities of the training of young athletes

Course Content (Syllabus)
1. Introduction to the scientific approach of exercise. Linking theory and practice on the basis of laboratory measurements and training application. Contents and structure of training. Adaptation of theoretical and laboratory knowledge in training programmes. Analysis of biological phenomena and determination of contents based on the updating exercise methods. Latest opinions on science training. Definition, features and concepts of coaching. Training periodisation and design - the surcompensation phenomenon. 2. Objectives and methods of training. Pedagogical and didactic principles. Physical training na new perspectives. Different athletic skills. The types of muscular contraction and muscle mechanics. Force-velocity and force-length relationships. Concentric, eccentric and isometric contraction mode. The plyometric training. 3. Jumping ability. Stretch-shortening cycle. Storage and re-utilization of the elastic energy. 4. Athletic technique. Training for athletic technique and learning skills. Objectives and contents of technical training. The concept of "economical" technique. The technique. The coordination skills and motor control theories. The mental training. Recording muscular activity. 5. Force. Different aspect of force. Maximal force, force-velocity, resistance force. Force development. Examples of force training in individual and team sports. Functional anatomy and activation of muscle groups when performing force exercises. Methods of force development. Central and peripheral adaptations after force training. 6. Velocity. The biological bases of velocity. Transfer velocity to neural stimulus and muscular response. Reaction time and the factors affecting it. Frequency movement, stride length and velocity training methods. Muscular coordination and the role of antagonists during fast movements. Basic methodological principles of velocity training. 7. Endurance. Structure and forms of appearance of endurance capacity. Biological phenomena and aerobic metabolism. Maximum oxygen uptake and the importance of this. Description of laboratory and pitch measurements for evaluating the aerobic capacity. The example of Conconi test. 8. Endurance. Methods of aerobic training. Continuous vs interval methods. Examples of aerobic training programs. Fatigue. Central and peripheral fatigue. Overtraining. Diagnosis and causes of overtraining. Recovery methods. 9. Flexibility. Structure and different aspect of flexibility. Types of joints and spinal mobility. The force-length relationship and the methodological principles of flexibility training. Methods of training flexibility. Passive vs active stretching: new perspectives. 10. Tactical training. Biological bases of tactical behaviour. Cognition and memory (short and long-term). Objectives of tactic training. Methodical principles for tactical training. Examples. The specifics of team sports. 11. Training design. Structure, schedule and training amount. Training periods, sets and units. The classical theories, their boundaries and the new trends in training. Building a training program. The concept of a delayed training effect. Targeted accumulation training. Examples of programs in explosive vs resistive sports. New aspects on warming up and recovery. 12. Training in childhood and adolescence. Peculiarities of training of young athletes. The temporal discontinuity of development. Training the elderly. The characteristics of aging. Indicative exercises. Balance and stability training workout. 13. Athletic scientific vocabulary and coaching terminology. Repeat and exam preparation.
