Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to: (i) apply tools for intermediate production planning; (ii) apply tools for the management of materials; (iii) develop effective short-term production plans; (iv) coordinate personnel, machines, and other resources to perform work in a timely manner; and (v) evaluate the production cost.
General Competences
  • Apply knowledge in practice
  • Retrieve, analyse and synthesise data and information, with the use of necessary technologies
  • Adapt to new situations
  • Make decisions
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction. Aggregate Planning: Simple planning heuristics (chase demand strategy; level workforce strategy); planning with linear and non-linear cost functions; planning the production, inventory and work force, dis-aggregating the aggregate plan. Production Scheduling: project scheduling; scheduling for job-shop systems; scheduling for flow-shop systems; scheduling for batch production systems; scheduling for continuous production systems. Managing Materials with Depended Demands:Structure and principles of MRP systems; MRP inputs (master schedule file, bill of materials BOM file, inventory records file; MRP logic and mechanics; MRP outputs (orders and production release schedules, order releases, change reports, load reports); lot sizing in MRP; capacity requirements planning; Manufacturing Resources Planning MRP II. Just-In-Time and Optimized Production Technology: the principles and mechanics of JIT production; implementing JIT production; synchronous production and the theory of constraints; optimized production technology (OPT). Cost measures and accounting practices: the sources of costing; cost centers; production cost.

Student Assessment
Description
The evaluation of students (FG)(range 0-10) is based on a combination of the following marks: Final examination paper (FE), Midterm examination paper (ME), assignment (AA) The evaluation formula is as follows: If FE<5, then: FG = FE If FE>=5 then: FG = 5 + (FE-5)*0,6 + (AA-5)*0,4 + (ME-5)*0,2 (no negative marks)
Student Assessment methods
  • Written Exam with Short Answer Questions (Formative, Summative)
  • Written Assignment (Summative)
  • Written Exam with Problem Solving (Formative, Summative)
