Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction: Current environmental issues (climate change, acid rain, urban pollution, ozone layer depletion), main pollutants, environmental regulations. Air pollutants calculation methodologies, emission factors. Pollutants emissions from stationary combustion sources: Power generation, industry, small combustion installations. Pollutant emissions from road transport: Vehicle technologies, COPERT 4 model application, CO2 reduction scenaria, electric and hybrid vehicles, biofuel use. Application of CRUISE/ADVISOR models for hybrid/electric vehicles simulation. Pollutant emissions from other sources: aviation, railways, maritime, off-road vehicles and machinery. Other anthropogenic sources: Solvents, quarrying, fugitive emissions from fuels, production processes, agriculture and farming, waste management. Biogenic emissions: forests. Air pollutants emissions inventories: Characteristics, emissions in national, regional and local scales. Atmospheric pollution in urban environments: spatial and temporal profiles. Emissions inventories in Greece.
