Learning Outcomes
In this course the students familiarise with various measurement techniques used in fluid mechanics. Students learn how to conduct fluid flow measurements in the most appropriate fashion. They also, learn to appreciate the importance of measurement uncertainty as well as how to evaluate measurement accuracy. Furthermore, students are trained to relate the measuring principals with the physics behind the technique.
Course Content (Syllabus)
In this course the theory of measurements is presented. Particular attention is payed on the application of measuring techniques in Fluid Mechanics and Turbomachinery. Analysis of various methods of estimating measuring errors as well as evaluating measurement uncertainties. Pressure measurement techniques. Mass and Volume Flow Measurement techniques. Flowmeters. Measurement Regulations. Velocity and turbulence measurements in fluid mechanic systems. Optical measurement techniques. The course is enriched by the study of flow visualisation techniques. Furthermore, the design of experiments in view of development of numerical tools is addressed. The use of automated measurement procedures using computer aided technique is discussed.
