Learning Outcomes
• To understand the fundamentals of energy systems’ economics and to able to evaluate alternative modes of energy supply, taking into account the challenges and the constraints of renewable and non renewable energy systems by appreciating the economic framework within which decisions are made. • To address the issues of developing renewable energy systems in a period of profound and rapid change of national and international energy markets driven by processes of privatisation and liberalisation.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Design, financing and implementation of energy systems investments. Definition of investments’ initial cost, operational and rejection cost. Optimisation of energy resources management. Dimensioning and utilisation of energy systems. Estimation methods for energy investment aims. Life cycle analysis of energy systems. Energy demand management. Incentives policies for energy policies implementation. Macroeconomics and pricing policies of energy. The European electricity and natural gas market, European and national regulatory framework.
