Learning Outcomes
Development of knowledge in subjects concerning the political, social and economic geography of Europe. Study of the basic elements regarding the structure, the history and the organization of European Union. Detail reference to the horizontal and thematic structural policies of European Union and knowledge concerning their application and impacts to economy and society in Greece. Introduction in spatial development planning with emphasis to the procedure of building realistic and effective development plans on a national or regional basis.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The concept of economic and social development - approaches and indicators. An overview of the scientific approach to integrated planning and programming. Political geography of the European Union (EU) - history, developments. Institutions and structures of the EU for policy development. EU policy for social, economic and territorial cohesion. Key tools and resources for the implementation of the European Union's development policy. Thematic policies of the EU - regional policy, transport policy, environmental policy, agricultureral / rural development policy, policy for the employment, the competitiveness, the research and the technology, etc. National policy for social and economic development / planning, resources, implementation and evaluation.
