Prerequisites
General Prerequisites
A general knowledge of 20th century European History is required. A general knowledge of the institutions and functions of the European Union is desirable, as provided by the undergraduate programme of the School of Law.
Learning Outcomes
In the framework of the course, students are expected that they will: (a) familiarize themselves with the historic evolution of the unfinished process of European which affects several aspects of the life of citizens and the functioning of states which participate to the European Union, (b) acquire knowledge necessary in order to comprehend the functioning of the European institutions and the legal and political realities of the European Union, (c) become aware of the historical dimensions of several of the issues facing the European Union and its member states, (d) acquire the background of knowledge necessary to access the principal theories of integration, (e) learn the historical method of analysis, (f) familiarize themselves with the study of multiple sources and the drafting of focused working papers.

Course Content (Syllabus)
tudents are expected to focus on the course of European integration from the interwar period to the Treaty of Lisbon. The course is structured around the landmarks of this course, such as the European Recovery Programme (Marshall Plan), the setting up of the European Communities, the successive enlargements of the Communities, major crises, and the deepening initiatives which led to the Treaty of the European Union and its successive revisions until Lisbon, in 2007.
